Residents of the UAE celebrate National Day on a grand scale. The streets are decorated with the national flag: a symbol of freedom, pride and patriotism. An air show is held in Abu Dhabi with a huge UAE flag flown in the sky attached to a helicopter. In Dubai, the famous Burj Khalifa skyscraper is painted in the colours of the national flag.
An important element of celebrating National Day is the launch of a giant balloon with the image of Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan. It is accompanied by an official ceremony, a colourful parade and a concert by various artists. In the evening, a laser show and fireworks are planned.
