RTA's 'Golden Chance' allows expats to change their driving licences without attending driving lessons

If your country doesn't happen to be on the list, you can still benefit from the 'Golden Chance' incentive and get a local licence after passing the exams. This initiative was proposed by The Dubai Road and Transport Authority (RTA). Before, foreigners from these countries had to attend driving lesson followed by taking, and passing, a test.To see if you are eligible to get a UAE driving licence without having to take any exams, go to the RTA website.

1. Visit the RTA website and click 'Apply Now'.
   
2. Enter the details of your Emirates ID.
   
3. Enter your mobile phone number and put in the single-use password.
   
4. Review your personal details.
   
5. If you already have a driving licence, select the country it was issued in and enter the details, including the driving licence category.

Residents from countries outside the list can still take advantage of the 'Golden Chance'. For that, you need to:

1. Take a vision test at any registered ophthalmologist's.
   
2. Take a theory test at any Dubai driving school.
   
3. Take a road test.
   

If you successfully pass both of these tests, you will get the UAE driving licence, valid for two years. It can then be extended it for five years. If you fail your 'Golden Chance', you will have to go to driving school for both driving theory and practice. After that, you must retake these tests again.
