Rules of conduct during Ramadan in 2024

Rules of etiquette in Ramadan

If you have chosen the UAE for your holiday destination and it coincides with the Ramadan period, you need to follow certain rules of etiquette. Inappropriate behaviour can lead to problems with local law enforcements, lead to fines, arrest or even deportation. For guests of the Emirates during this holy month, it is recommended that you follow some important rules:

1. During daylight hours in public places, it is forbidden to eat, drink, have alcohol and smoke.
2. Try not to refuse an invitation to Iftar. As a thank you for the invitation, it is customary to give the owner of the home you are invited to a gift - this can be sweets or flowers.
3. Before eating, you should wish well-being and peace to the whole family of the person who treats you. You only need to eat with your right hand.
4. It's considered impolite for Muslims to leave the table immediately after the end of the meal.
5. Wear appropriate clothing in public. Women are not allowed to wear short skirts, shorts or provocative dresses.
6. Swimwear can only be worn at the hotel pool and on the beach.
7. No need to disturb the locals during prayer.
8. Respect the feelings of believers and try to show them maximum respect.
9. Do not turn on loud music and do not arrange noisy entertainment events.
10. Showing affection in public is not allowed.
11. If you are non-Muslim, you must ask permission before entering a mosque.
12. Ramadan is an appeasement period, so in public places you can not swear, quarrel, use obscene language and gestures.
