How Dubai will celebrate Eid al-Fitr
Eid al-Fitr could fall on Saturday, April 22, according to the International Astronomy Centre. However, the exact date will only be confirmed based on the moon sighting. The holiday literally translates as "festival of breaking fast" and is celebrated during the first 3 days of Shawwal, which is the tenth month of the Muslim calendar. On the first day of the festival, at daybreak, Muslims perform a common prayer, which is called "salat". It is common to visit one's friends and family, wear new clothes and give presents during Eid al-Fitr.

Over the Eid al-Fitr break, you can catch breathtaking firework displays across the most coveted locations in Dubai. These include:

  • Bluewaters Island and The Beach, JBR on April 22nd at 9pm
  • Global Village on April 21st-22nd at 9pm (the entry cost is AED 20 (USD 5)
  • Jumeirah Beach on April 22nd at 9pm
As well as that, on April 21st, Motiongate in Dubai Parks and Resorts will host the ILLUMINATE light and sound show, which will immerse its little visitors in the inspiring story of a dancer. At the same time, Lapita Hotel Dubai will treat its guests to meet-and-greets with cartoon characters from the shows Shaabiat Al Cartoon and The Smurfs. From April 20th–23rd, the indoor theme park; IMG Worlds of Adventure, will host various activities, including henna and face painting, as well as Bollywood and Khaleeji-inspired musical shows. The park will be open from noon to midnight, with the starting ticket cost at AED 345 (USD 94). Children under 3.5 ft go free of charge.
